日本の代理店であるウィスク・イー(Whisk-e Ltd.)向けの、シェリーホグスヘッドで熟成されたアランのシングルカスクウイスキーです。
実質的に、日本市場向けの商品ということになります。偶然バーで同席した方が持ち込んでいたものを、お相伴させていただきました。
This is a single cask Arran single malt, matured in a sherry hogshead, and bottled for Whisk-e Ltd., the Japanese importer/distributor. Essentially, it’s a product intended for the Japanese market. I had the good fortune to try it at a bar, thanks to someone who brought it along.

香り：デーツ、熟したプラム、濃厚な樽香、白桃、香りの発散力が強い、酸を意識させるクリームチーズ、奥に香ばしい麦芽。
味：非常に滑らか、ややライトボディ、白桃、デーツ、凝縮感、ジンジャーパウダー、やや強めの樽のビターなウッディさ。
総評：長期熟成に差し掛かろうとしているアランですが、香りは華やかですが、味わいは濃厚でコテコテのシェリーというよりは、綺麗なタイプでした。
開栓直後だからか、味わいの要素は拾いづらい部分がありましたが、時間が経過するともう少し繊細な甘さやフルーティさが出てきそうな気配がありました。
Nose: Dates, ripe plums, rich oak, white peach, pronounced aroma intensity, a creamy cheese note with a touch of acidity, and a hint of toasted malt in the background.
Palate: Very smooth, somewhat light-bodied, white peach, dates, concentrated flavour, ginger powder, and a slightly strong, bitter oaky woodiness.
Overall: This Arran is approaching long-term maturation. While the nose is vibrant and expressive, the palate is clean and refined rather than a thick, heavy sherry bomb. Perhaps because it was tasted soon after opening, some of the nuanced flavours were initially difficult to discern. However, it showed potential for developing more delicate sweetness and fruitiness with time.

Born in Toyama, Japan in 1983, Tadaaki Shimono’s passion for single malt whisky ignited at the age of 20, when a chance encounter with a dram at a bar in Utsunomiya sparked a lifelong fascination.
This passion led him to establish Malt Yamazaki, an online retailer specializing in single malt whiskies, in 2013. Furthering his commitment to the spirit, he founded T&T TOYAMA in 2021, pioneering Japan’s first authentic whisky bottler.
A dedicated student of whisky, Shimono has traveled extensively, visiting over 160 distilleries across Japan, Scotland, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Korea, and Taiwan (as of October 2024).
